Why do we have CCTV cameras?

The CCTV system is made up of public space CCTV cameras in the Neath and Port Talbot town centres. Additionally, we also have CCTV cameras located along the Aberavon Seafront and outside Baglan library.

By utilising CCTV we aim to:

• Improve public safety
• Assist in the identification and reduction of crime within the county
• Reduce anti-social behaviour within the areas monitored within the CCTV boundaries

Request footage

You have the legal right to request footage of yourself. This is called a Subject Access Request.

Neath Port Talbot CCTV keep footage for 31 days.

How to make a Subject Access Request

We will accept a request of information verbally although we suggest you complete the Subject Access Request application form as this will assist us in progressing your application smoothly.  

You'll need to provide:

• Two official I.D. documents. These must be certified. These must show your name, current address and date of birth. For information on having your I.D. certified visit the Gov.uk certifying page
• We will require details of the exact footage you are requesting. This will include location, date and time

How we'll respond to your request for information

We will deal with your request within 28 days. If we can supply the requested footage we will contact you to let you know if the requested footage is available and make arrangements to receive the video footage. We can refuse your request if:

• It affects the data protection of others
• This CCTV footage is being used as part of a criminal investigation

• In the case of a road traffic collision and if you have an insurance company we would normally deal directly with them
